The Bruker S1 SORTER is a handheld X-ray fluorescence (XRF) analyzer designed specifically for rapid, non-destructive metal analysis and scrap sorting. It is an earlier generation of Bruker's handheld XRF technology, preceding the current S1 TITAN series.
- Detector: Uses a SiPIN diode detector, which is reliable for identifying standard heavier elements but generally slower than the newer Silicon Drift Detectors (SDD).
- Excitation: Features an X-ray tube with an Ag (Silver) target and a maximum voltage of 40 kV.
- Physical Specs: Weighs approximately 2 kg (4.4 lbs) with batteries and has a rugged design for field use.
- Operating System: Runs on Microsoft Windows Mobile 5.0 for Pocket PC.
- Temperature Range: Capable of measuring hot surfaces up to 500°C.
- Scrap Metal Recycling: Fast sorting of ferrous and non-ferrous alloys to determine scrap value and identify "tramp" elements.
- Alloy Identification: Pre-calibrated for standard alloy groups including stainless steel, tool steel, low alloy steel, and copper/nickel alloys.
